NW Greenland Glaciated Margin

International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 400 onboard JOIDES Resolution

12 August - 13 October 2023

Port: Reykjavik, Iceland

IODP Expedition 400 targets sediment archives with high temporal resolution in Baffin Bay to trace the Greenland Ice Sheet's evolution over the past 30 million years. Positioned near key glacial outlets, these sites promise insights into the ice sheet's extremes – from maximum glaciation to near-complete loss. By linking these findings to global climate variability during warm and cold periods, ocean circulation patterns, and orbital/tectonic influences, we aim to unravel the complex factors shaping the Greenland Ice Sheet in the past - and in the near-future.
